Ketamine-Assisted Therapy

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy

Ketamine-assisted therapy (KAT) is a novel therapeutic method that is uniquely effective in addressing a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain, and addiction. It involves the use of the psychoactive substance ketamine in conjunction with psychotherapy to enhance and deepen the therapeutic process. While the biochemical effects of ketamine on its own can provide symptom relief, we have found that combining it with psychotherapy and other integrative treatments tends to amplify and prolong ketamine's curative effects.*

At Sage, we offer ketamine-assisted therapy as part of our comprehensive and holistic approach to wellness, especially when paired with complementary therapies—such as bodywork, craniosacral therapy, nutrition counseling, and somatic experiencing—to help integrate the insights from KAT, regulate the nervous system, and extend its therapeutic benefits.

Wondering what Ketamine-Assisted Therapy is like at Sage?

Tune in to this NPR interview featuring 'Didi,' a KAT client and her Sage therapist, Dr. Genesee Herzberg, as they offer a rare glimpse into the tender and transformative work of Ketamine-Assisted Therapy.
Our Approach
Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) offers a powerful, research-backed approach for those seeking deep healing beyond traditional talk therapy. This modality combines the therapeutic use of ketamine—a dissociative anesthetic with psychedelic properties—with psychotherapy to help individuals access and process difficult emotions, memories, and patterns with greater openness and ease.
Decolonizing Mental Health, a relational approach to healing
Our treatment model honors the ways trauma, systemic oppression, and intergenerational wounds shape mental health. We recognize that healing happens both within us and through relationships, and that much of our psychological suffering arises from relational and structural harm: unmet needs, attachment disruptions, experiences of neglect, betrayal, invalidation, or marginalization.
The Flow of Ketamine-Assisted Therapy at Sage:
While each KAT treatment is highly individualized and based on your unique circumstances and needs, the start of a KAT program at Sage typically unfolds like this:

We recommend a commitment to at least 3-6 ketamine sessions, as this medicine tends to have a cumulative effect and is most beneficial after multiple treatments.
