Integrative Bodywork
& Massage Therapy

Touch-based massage therapies can be a powerful ingredient in an integrative approach to health: relieving muscle tension, alleviating stress, encouraging the self-healing process, and helping to prepare for and integrate psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

At Sage, we practice a variety of integrative, touch-based therapies including orthopedic manual therapy, shiatsu, myofascial cupping, guided breathwork and trauma-informed bodywork.

We offer in-person bodywork in a relaxing, healing environment at our center in Berkeley, CA.

The Sage Approach to Massage Therapy
Experienced Massage Therapists & Bodyworkers
Our massage therapists are highly skilled and passionate about what they do. Through specialized training and a deep understanding of how bodywork supports mental and physical health, our team will bring a personalized approach to your massage sessions that addresses your concerns and supports your body's natural ability to heal.
Trauma-informed Approach
Our massage therapists and bodyworkers are specially trained to gently relieve physical and mental tension stored in the body. Our practitioners inquire about any past trauma that may impact your relationship to touch, and make safe, slow, and presence-based contact to support you in relaxing and being present in your body. They are careful to respect any boundaries that you have and receptive to feedback as you together learn what feels safe and therapeutic for your unique system.
Care, Coordinated
At Sage, we believe the mind, body, and spirit are all interconnected and our bodywork program is designed accordingly. Bodywork can be a powerful adjunct to other mental health and wellness modalities, helping you to integrate deep psychospiritual work. Our bodyworkers actively collaborate with other Sage practitioners in support of your overall health and wellness. Bodywork can be an excellent adjunct to ketamine assisted therapy, supporting the body in opening to and integrating from medicine sessions.
Sage Bodywork & Massage Therapy Modalities
  • Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy is a holistic form of hands-on bodywork that addresses the whole person. Using a very light and subtle touch, it is a powerful form of bodywork that supports the body's natural capacity to heal and rebalance itself. Craniosacral therapy treats a wide range of conditions and can be an effective treatment to pair with ketamine sessions, often supporting a "coming home," nervous system regulation, deep relaxation, and centered balance in the body-mind.
  • Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork usually offered on a mat on the floor, fully clothed, and generally without lotion/oil. Shiatsu sessions are gentle, slow and can deeply relax the body, as well as soothe the nervous system. The techniques used include finger pressure, palm compression, stretching, vibration, and joint mobilization. Shiatsu techniques are also integrated into table sessions at Sage.
  • Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
  • Orthopedic Manual Therapy
Orthopedic Manual Therapy, also known as clinical "Deep Tissue", is a specific approach to working with soft tissue dysfunction, limited range of motion and chronic pain. Assessing your range of motion, tissue tension, and structural pattern, our bodyworker will use neuromuscular techniques, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and long integrative strokes to recalibrate the bodies tension patterns. These sessions can be fairly dynamic and interactive, supporting the bodies joints and soft tissues, and increasing circulation.
  • Breathwork
Breathwork is a potent practice that utilizes deep, conscious and rhythmic breathing to discharge tension, reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, increase immune function, and help restore nervous system regulation. Breathwork can be integrated into bodywork sessions, or can be held as a contained session.
  • Psycho-somatic & integrative touch therapy
We recommend this kind of bodywork for individuals seeking physical support to help integrate other forms of treatment, such as ketamine assisted psychotherapy, psychotherapy, or medicinal journal work. In conjunction with psychotherapy or psychedelic-assisted therapy, this therapeutic approach can help catalyze the mind-body connection and facilitate integration. For example, clients can utilize touch therapy before psychedelic sessions as a form of preparation, during ketamine assisted therapy sessions as a means of support, or after psychedelic work to promote integration. We've found that this type of bodywork can be useful for individuals with clinical depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Psycho-somatic touch therapy can help soften constriction, tension, and trauma held in the body.
  • Trauma-informed bodywork
Trauma informed bodywork is a specialized approach to bodywork. We recommend this type of treatment for individuals who may have a history of trauma or who are struggling to understand their numbness, physical restrictions, discomfort, disconnection or acute or chronic pain. It is often helpful to work with a psychotherapist in tandem with trauma-informed bodywork.
What to expect with Massage Therapy & Bodywork at Sage?
In your first session, you'll visit with our bodyworker to discuss your concerns and establish your goals. Your therapist will inquire about any pain or other sensations you have experienced recently including numbness, physical restriction, acute or chronic pain, discomfort, or disconnection from an area in your body. They will also ask about any trauma history or relationship to touch that may be triggered by physical contact. You will then move into your first individually tailored bodywork treatment.
Once you've completed your first session, your touch therapist will establish a cadence for follow up visits. If you're working with another Sage practitioner, our team will coordinate visits to improve effectiveness of your complementary treatments.
