Psychiatry

Integrative psychiatry is a comprehensive approach that helps you develop stability, access support, and manage symptoms that get in the way of living your best life. It can help you grapple with challenges that arise, learn more about yourself, and show up in the best way possible to your daily activities and relationship.

We offer integrative psychiatry at our clinic in Berkeley, CA. We have a diverse and talented team of psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners to support your healing journey.
The Sage Integrative Health Approach to Psychiatry
Experienced & Caring Practitioners
Our skilled team of psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners are gifted at helping our patients find relief from difficult symptoms they may be dealing with and address the root causes of their suffering. At Sage, we find that the relationship between psychiatric providers and patients is an essential component of our patient's healing journey, so we focus on matching patients with a provider who will best support their needs.
A Deeper Relationship
If you're wanting more out of your relationship with your psychiatrist, psychiatry at Sage may be a great option for you. At Sage, your psychiatric care provider takes the time to build a relationship with you and listen fully to your concerns and needs. You'll find that Sage intakes & follow up visits are longer than the standard 15 minutes so you have time to engage more deeply with your provider.
Coordinated Care
We often find that our patients benefit from multiple treatment modalities that support their work with their psychiatrist. At Sage, we offer a number of complementary healing modalities and our psychiatry team is trained to identify and coordinate care with other Sage practitioners when appropriate. We offer all of these integrative care modalities in house, allowing our practitioners to collaborate and provide comprehensive support for your path towards healing.
What to expect with Psychiatry at Sage?
Before you begin working with a Sage psychiatric practitioner, we'll have you complete a short intake via phone or online. Based on your answers, we'll match you with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner who we feel will be a good fit and who is best equipped to handle your concerns.

Once you begin working with your provider, they will propose an ongoing psychiatry session cadence. Depending on your needs, these appointments will be anywhere from once a week to once every three months.

When first starting a medication you will need to see the provider with more frequency, typically every 2 weeks. Once the right medication and dosage has been achieved follow up sessions are once a month to once every three months depending on the medication.
Who should consider Psychiatry at Sage?
If you're considering psychiatry for the first time, Sage offers a welcoming space to begin your care. Our approach to psychiatry is to provide you with all the information you need to have agency in making the best decisions for yourself.

A general rule of thumb is if you have had symptoms that inhibit your ability to meet responsibilities at work or engage in meaningful relationships for more days than not for more than 3 months, it is worth considering a psychiatry consult. You might also consider whether people close to you have expressed concerns. Other more acute symptoms such as suicidal ideation or feelings of overwhelm after traumatic events may also be indications that psychiatry can help.

For those who have worked with a psychiatrist previously or are currently considering a change, Sage could be a great option for you if you're seeking more out of your relationship with your psychiatrist. While medication is a component of our psychiatric care, our psychiatric providers take a holistic approach to the mind and body that includes talk therapy, lifestyle recommendations, referrals to other integrative health providers, and other approaches to wellness. Our providers focus on creating a consistent and caring therapeutic relationship and tailor their approach to each person's individual needs. They work collaboratively with our integrative team at Sage, and will refer and consult with your other providers when complementary to your care.
