Ketamine-Assisted Therapy

Ketamine-assisted therapy (KAT) is a unique therapeutic method used to address a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, addiction, and some forms of anxiety. It involves the use of the psychoactive substance ketamine in conjunction with other modalities to enhance and deepen the therapeutic process. The use of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and other integrative forms of treatment can amplify and prolong the curative effects of ketamine.*

At Sage, we offer ketamine-assisted therapy as part of our comprehensive and holistic approach to wellness. We have found that this unique type of treatment is most effective when paired with other forms of therapy that complement and deepen the work.
In addition to integration counseling, we offer various integrative modalities such as acupuncture, bodywork, nutrition counseling naturopathy, and somatic therapy, to support ongoing improvements in your daily life.

Call today to schedule an appointment or use this form to book a free, 15 minute non-medical consultation to determine whether our integrative approach to ketamine-assisted therapy is right for you.

Your Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Treatment Journey
1
Screening & Onboarding with your
Care Coordination Expert
After completing your new patient intake form, you'll complete a phone screening with your Care Coordinator who listens to your symptoms and concerns, answers any questions you might have about your treatment journey, and ask you any clarifying information to determine if ketamine therapy may be a beneficial treatment in your case.
2
Medical Evaluation & Therapist Matching
Our care coordinator will help you schedule your Medical Evaluation with an in-house prescribing physician for psychiatric assessment, and to make sure Ketamine Therapy is a medically appropriate treatment route for you. They will also work to match you with a therapist on our team, based on your preferences, symptoms, and needs. You will be scheduled for a 20-30min initial discovery call with your matched therapist, so that you can make sure it feels like a good match.
3
3-6 Preparatory Sessions
Once you are cleared for treatment by your prescribing physician and your therapist matching is complete, you will meet with your therapist for 3 - 6 preparatory sessions. These sessions will support you in clarifying your treatment goals and lay the groundwork for the deeper work that will be uncovered during your ketamine sessions.
4
Your first Ketamine Session
The ketamine session itself typically lasts 3 hours if in person, and 2-3 hours if virtual. Your therapist will be with you throughout the ketamine session, either in person or over video/phone. While there are many possible routes of administration, we primarily work with sublingual lozenges or intramuscular (IM) injections of ketamine.
5
2 Integration Sessions
After your first KAT session, you will have at least 2 integration sessions in which we will help you integrate your experience during the ketamine session, discuss how you responded to the medicine, and determine an individualized course of treatment moving forward.
6
Going forward with Ketamine & Integration Sessions
In most cases, multiple ketamine sessions are necessary in order to experience lasting effects. We recommend at least 3 ketamine sessions, with a strong encouragement to complete at least 6 sessions, as this medicine has a cumulative effect and is most beneficial after multiple treatments. Each ketamine session is followed by 2 integration sessions. In some cases, patients who have completed at least 3 in-office sessions may become eligible for closely-supervised at-home lozenge sessions to help make the treatment more affordable.

While KAT is highly individualized and based on your unique circumstances and needs, the start of a typical KAT program at Sage includes:

  • 1 Psychiatric Intake (required)
  • At least 3 Preparatory Sessions
  • 3 KAT treatment sessions with a skilled therapist
  • 3 Integration Wellness Sessions (Acupuncture, Bodywork, or Integrative Medicine)
  • 6 Integration Sessions (2 after each Ketamine session)
We recommend a commitment to at least 3-6 ketamine sessions, as this medicine tends to have a cumulative effect and is most beneficial after multiple treatments. We also highly recommend integrative health treatment (bodywork, acupuncture, herbs or nutrition) alongside your KAT program.
